At Zen Dental, we strive to provide restorations that are undetectable and look and feel natural.
A crown is a tooth-shaped dental appliance that can be placed at the site of a lost or damaged tooth to restore the look and function of your smile.
Common uses of a dental crown:
- Can be used to protect a weak tooth, or a tooth that has recently undergone root canal therapy.
- Crowns can be placed on top of dental implants and act as a permanent replacement for lost teeth.
- Fixes functional chewing problems and aesthetic issues with your smile.
- Offers support to misshapen teeth, or teeth with large fillings and hairline fractures.
Placing a dental crown on a tooth requires at least two appointments to our office. During the first appointment, we will prepare the tooth by shaving off a part of it to allow for the crown to fit. If the crown is being placed at the site of a lost tooth where a dental implant has been installed, then attachments or posts will be connected to the implants, and the crown is placed over these attachments. Impressions of your mouth are taken to craft your custom crown in a shape and shade that resembles your natural teeth. You are fitted with a temporary restoration until the permanent one is prepared. Your custom crown is made in a dental laboratory using the impressions we take at our office during your first appointment. Once your crown is ready, the temporary restoration is removed and the permanent one is bonded to your tooth using dental cement.
